Willow Street Supportive Housing

Westminster Street / Mineral Spring Avenue Supportive Housing

Community and independence are fundamental desires we all share from a very early age through our golden years.  For the majority of us, these are easily attained, but for people with disabilities these can be insurmountable challenges.

This autonomy is vital to a disabled person’s self-esteem and well-being. Owning or renting one’s own home is a critical part of independence.

Spurwink Realty Development Company’s Willow Street Supportive Housing at 99 Willow Street in Providence fulfills that need for twenty (20) individuals with disabilities.

Spurwink Realty Development Company’s mission is to ensure that decent, safe, accessible, and affordable housing units are available for low-income disabled people.  The Section 811 Program of the US Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) provides housing assistance for people with physical and/or developmental disabilities and/or mental illness, who are 18 years of age or older.  Their incomes must be at or below 50 % of the median income in Rhode Island.  Through project rental assistance, tenants pay 30% of their adjusted gross income for rent. Spurwink Realty Development Company’s housing is affordable for those who meet HUD’s criteria.  In addition, a support component is provided by spurwink|ri to assist with the activities of daily living.

Spurwink Realty Development Company has twelve (12) units currently rented.  Spurwink Supported Living, Inc. has three (3) condominium units available in North Providence and another seven (7) units that became available in January 2011 on Westminster Street in Providence.

Having lived in a city all of my life (in this country) and having spent time in public housing, I somewhat know what a tenant doesn't want to encounter. Providing structure and discipline, paired with a caring touch, creates a sense of safety.
